It might not cross your mind to visit the coast at this time of the year.

Making sandcastles, having picnics and walking along the beach may seem only summertime activities. Nothing could be further from the truth, as the coastline along the Yorke Peninsula, and particularly at Ardrossan, is a welcoming sight anytime of the year.

The decision to undertake a daytrip to the "Yorkes" can be made on the day, as the historic township is only approx 150km from Adelaide.

A leisurely drive stopping off for a drink or a meal at The Wheatsheaf Hotel Price, just off the Yorke Highway, is a decision you will not regret. Publican Trevor Nixon will greet you with a welcoming smile and country hospitality.

Should you choose a day when the pub is not serving meals then all is not lost. Meraki Sole Fifth Street, Ardrossan is the perfect place to enjoy an all day breakfast or light lunch. Their healthy options can be enjoyed with organic fairtrade coffee or a selection of locally made specialty teas in a pot for 1 or 2. Browse the unique giftware and clothing as you decide which delicious desserts to sample.

The Patchy Affair Quilt Shop is tucked away in the main street,(First St) just near the Foodland shopping complex. Julie Nixon does a magnificent job of providing your quilting needs and due to many years of experience in the industry, she is a wealth of knowledge.

Drop in for a "little inspiration" or just some "eye candy". There's even a chair and some magazines for the hubby to enjoy.

Ardrossan main street is only a short walk to the Jetty and a small portion of the popular 500km Walk the Yorke . Just follow the distinctive yellow signs.

Walk/Ride a little or a lot depending on your fitness, time allowed or the weather. Don't forget to slip, slop, slap even during the colder months as you'll most likely stay longer than you think.

Free parking is available so there is no need to keep watching the clock to get back to your vehicle.

Wander at your own pace and take in the spectacular coastal scenery. Breathe in and feel invigorated by the fresh sea air. Use the opportunity to clear your thoughts or chatter and reconnect with family or friends.

Keep the camera clicking and you can enjoy the experience over and over when you are at home.

If walking is not your style and you'd prefer to spend some time fishing, throw the line in and grab a space on the jetty. There is a very good chance that you will join the other "fishers" catching Tommies, Squid, Snook, Salmon Trout or Mullett.

Remember to download the Free SA Recreational Fishing Guide app on your phone for the latest information on local fishing rules.

A day trip is a great way to decide if you would like to revisit or even venture further along the coastline anytime of the year.

Country Getaways is a highly recommended accommodation provider. Helly and her friendly, efficient staff will provide you with many options for your future stay.
