Fairhaven Beach nearby is popular with surfers, although swimmers should stick to beaches near Aireys inlet. Painkalac Creek, which separates Aireys Inlet from Fairhaven, forms a salt lake behind the sand dunes before it cuts through to the ocean, and is a scenic place for a dip. There is also a reef at Step Beach which forms an excellent swimming hole.
