The beach is almost always a great idea, the exception being when it is rainy. Australia is an island nation, which means that we are surrounded by water so beaches are numerous. Why not have a family day out at one of them?
Sport events, like a bit of fun backyard cricket or a volleyball match, is a fun way to spend the day. Why not use that cricket bat you got for Christmas and haven't used yet?

All social groups, clubs etc shd hold their own Australia Day gathering of a. BBQ, Picnic, Chicken-Champagne brunch/lunch, Bring A Plate, “We do Rice You do Hot Pot”, etc.
Charge a Gold coin or run a Chook raffle and send proceeds to an Aussie Charity.
