We wonder many times when looking at successful people how they manage to handle all the aspects of life in such a harmonious way. Some just seem to have everything under control – a strong romantic relationship, good health, a happy family and a successful career, all at the same time. Is it possible? What do they do to achieve it?
Psychologists agree that after-hours routine is crucial to the success of anyone's career. So what's their secret? Do successful people spend their free time differently than ordinary people? Not exactly, but certainly handle things in a different way. Here are some of the things successful people do after work.
They separate their private life from their work
When handling a very demanding job, one simply cannot avoid bringing it home. Whether they have to take work calls after the regular office hours or they have to put in some overtime, successful people know how to compartmentalize their lives and make time for their families. As overwhelming as a successful career may seem, taking a break from work often has benefit results, boosting one's productivity and allowing them to get a fresh perspective.
They don't try to squeeze everything into 24 hours
Successful people know how to put things in perspective. They do not try to squeeze every single activity into the 24 hours' time. A week has 7 days and a year 365. There are things like hitting the gym or having a big family dinner that can be done once or twice a week. They don't have to happen every single day, and one does not have to give up jogging because they don't have the time to do it every day. When having to juggle a demanding job and a busy family life, one might have to give up the weekly "boys' night out", but this does not mean that a successful businessman will not see his friends at all. It can happen less often or it can be during lunch break.
They don't watch TV; instead, they exercise
Studies have shown that most successful people favour exercising to watching TV. Most of them consider television a waste of time, while physical activity helps them stay healthy and maintain a good energy level. It may require some advance planning, but hitting the gym seems to be a priority for successful people.

They make time for their partners and for their friends
Successful people know how important it is to have a stable romantic relationship and reliable friends. Even when they are short of time, they can squeeze in a date with their partner or a friends' get-together over a coffee or a beer. It might seem ridiculous to some, but a standing Outlook calendar appointment to meet your friends every other Wednesday, for instance, will help you make sure those meetings will actually happen.
They make good use of technology
Successful people are busy people. How do they handle it all? They make good use of their time and they allow technology to help them manage their daily tasks. A quick reminder about your mother-in-law's birthday, a recurring grocery delivery to your home, a software that helps you keep track of all the small things that might just slip your mind… Nowadays you have a tool for almost everything.
They have a healthy sleeping routine.
A good sleeping routine means better health, less stress and a clearer mind. Successful people already know that and they manage their time efficiently so as to get enough time in bed.
