Theatresports is a form of improvisational theatre which sees teams competing against each other in set tasks, without any preparation time or rehearsals. This year's theme is "superheroes".
Up and coming actors and comics compete in teams in a series of heats each Sunday that will culminate in the grand final on Saturday December 3rd 2011 at The Enmore Theatre. The winning team will be awarded what the organisers call "the biggest - and possibly the ugliest! - trophy in existence".
This year will also see the winners from the Theatresports Schools Challenge grand final take part.
Due to the nature of the beast, no two shows are ever the same. Every performance is unique. Four teams joke, act, and even sing a little as the audience cheers for their favourites and throws foam bricks at the judges (or a pair of knickers, if they are really impressed).
Hosted by the very amusing Susie Youssef, with timekeeper and judge, Jane Simmons, the show takes place over approximately two hours. During the short interval you can grab a drink or food from the bar area downstairs or chat with the performers in a casual and friendly setting.
The entrance way and ticket office are around the back, through the side carpark. Parking is available on the street and there are three handicapped spaces in the theatre carpark, as well as spaces for around a dozen other cars.
Sounds like it would have been a lot of fun. Shame to have missed it but it is always great to see this kind of comedy still alive and well. Thanks for the review and bringing this event to everyone's attention.
Your in luck then Alex because it is still running. The heats are on every Sunday in October, at 3:30pm and 7:30pm. The semi's are then running in November until the final, which is on December 3rd.
