Go to the theatre for a fun & thought-provoking night out
Turbine Building, Brisbane Powerhouse
Theatre is one of, if not the, most engaging and provoking art forms practiced: it is a platform for self expression; a foundation for community; a place for thoughtful and elegantly expressed social and political commentary; a means of open, experimental and creative practice.
Unfortunately, theatre seems to be in minor demand in Brisbane, and is therefore greatly under represented, which is super disappointing, since theatre, to me, is kind of like a unification of all the major art forms: writing, dance, design, fashion, fine art - all these these forms of art can be, and usually are, incorporated into theatre.
If you're looking for a new recreational activity that's as fun as it is enriching, then I think you should give going to the theatre (that is, live theatre!) a go. To get you started, here's a list of live theatres in Brisbane. Some of these theatres are local, not-for-profit, community group theatres, so, while they probably won't offer the polished productions that bigger theatres offer, these folk will definitely appreciate, and are so worthy of, your support!
