  • 24 Feb - Dr Rob VS - For one date only, a new podcast about Australian Theatre will be recorded live in front of a foyer/cafe audience. It examines the collapsing world of the Arts, presented in a casual cabaret lecture style with just Dr Rob, a guitar and a PowerPoint presentation. A one-off performance, it'll introduce you to forgotten or never heard of Australian plays, along with stories of the arts and being an artist in Australia. At $11.63 a ticket, have a night out, get your heart broken and your mind opened about the arts.
  • 28 Feb - 9 Mar - Dry Land - Unflinching in its delivery, meet Amy, a teenager a little rough around the edges, with dreams to become a writer, until she faces an unplanned pregnancy. Find out what happens in a girls' change room after a high school swimming pool closes, and be witness to the resilience and intimacy of young women. This play will be performed at Theatre Works' other venue - the Explosives Factory, in the rear Laneway of 67 Inkerman St, St Kilda. It's a little tricky to find if you've never been. You go down the laneway and take a left.
  • 29 Feb - 16 Mar - Every Lovely Terrible Thing - This is a universal tale of families and why they stay together and what happens when they can't. It's a darkly comedic new play that steps inside the tumultuous world of the Colemans as they take on their greatest adversary yet. Themselves!

  • 13-23 Mar - Swansong - This is a must-see if you appreciate powerful storytelling and the transformative impact of theatre. The love of a mother and son against the world that has turned its back on them. It's emotionally charged with themes of survival, the power of human connection and the triumph of the spirit in the face of adversity.
  • 20-28 Mar - Beast in The Room - Part autofictional storytelling, part theatrical devising, part conversation, this is a head-and heart-smashing journey about finding your way through the darkness. How are we marked and transformed by loss? Where do we find hope and healing for the next generation? Big questions indeed.

  • There are of course a whole lot more theatre to explore as always at Theatre Works. Be sure to check out each complex bit of storytelling and get in early for the show as parking is rife. If you're a little early, there are snacks and drinks you can purchase at the counter. An intimate venue, there are so many good shows to discover, playing throughout our small theatre venues; some in the suburbs. It's a great way to be challenged by some shows perhaps, have a good night out, enjoy the conversation starter the show enables, and support the arts and the artists at the same time. Stay in touch with Theatre Works via their website where you'll find the 2024 Season Brochure; and Facebook page for updates and interesting content; for example - as per posters below, or simply subscribe on the website.
