New Location, Same Great Service and Food



Taking the plunge into the unknown and arriving on foreign shores is usually a very exciting time … until reality strikes! How on earth will you survive without your regular South African treats and comforts? Could you make it through a weekend of sport and good times with friends without braai-ing (BBQ-ing) some wors (South African sausage) and chops? And will movie night ever be the same again without a bag of melt-in-your-mouth Ghost Pops to snack on?



What if I told you that you don’t have to live without these South African delights? Because as it turns out, many South Africans simply couldn’t face living in far-away lands without their daily fix of South African goodies, and so the concept of South African shops was born. You are able to get everything you need and so much more just by visiting your local South African shop.



Believe it or not, but other countries may not even be aware of the top South African treats such as biltong (air-dried meat), peppermint crisp, Nik Naks, green crème soda and Ouma rusks (the dry biscuit-type delicacy that one dunks in coffee or tea.)



Australia is a true home away from home for many South Africans, with a cold beer and a barbie (BBQ) being just as important to Aussie life as Klippies (brandy)’n coke and a braai, are to the average Saffa. Saffa is a colloquial term for a person who was born in South Africa but has since moved to another country.



Having recently moved their location to a much-sought-after position in Wises Road, Buderim, my top recommendation for South African groceries, treats, alcohol and African ambience on the Sunshine Coast is The Zebra Crossing. Family owned and operated, The Zebra Crossing is your home-from-home, where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a meal, a cup of coffee (or two), in inviting, relaxed surrounds, with Stephen and Shelley Scholfield, The Zebra Crossing’s creators.



Over the years, The Zebra Crossing has grown in leaps and bounds, from initially just carrying a small select variety of South African groceries, biltong and various much-loved meats, to adding a kitchen for South African Breakfasts and Lunch, as well as offering takeaway South African food.



Calling all Saffas, Africans, Zimbabweans and yes, Australians too! The newly relocated Zebra Crossing has taken up a prime position at The Zone, 32 Wises Road in Buderim, more than doubling in size. The Zone may be a new location for the Zebra Crossing, but visitors are assured of receiving the same awesome service and same delectable delicacies, including milk tarts, koeksisters, biltong, lollies, a selection of desirable African gifts, plus must-have groceries.



Pick up a few of your favourite things to spoil your loved ones at home - you’ll be absolutely amazed at the huge variety on offer.



Visiting The Zebra Crossing ranks high on my list of top things to do on the Sunshine Coast, especially for ‘new’ locals who have braved the unknown and now happily call ‘downunder’ home. You will happily discover your home-from-home, a spot where Africa truly meets Australia!
