Much More Than Kitchen & Bedroom
A sneak preview of what's inside
On your way out of Warrandyte on the road to Croydon, look out for the old Yarra Store. It looks like it's been around since the gold rush came to Warrandyte. Actually it was opened in 1930 and has been various establishments since then. For the last five years it has been The Yarra Store, Linen and Larder. This is a one stop shopping spot.
What color do you want?
I have passed this store hundreds of times and finally stopped to have a quick look. From the name I imagined they stocked kitchenware, sheets and towels, but it is so much more. Here are some examples of the items they stock: furniture, gardenware, jewellery, candles and candle sticks, silverware, books, cushions, macarons, clothes, unusual shoes and an extensive range of moisturisers, soaps, other skincare and beauty products.
Can't get much more on those shelves
I didn't even need to go into the store to know I was going to love it. They had a rack of clothes out the front for 50% off. I didn't expect to find so many quality and unique clothes items more suited for a high-end fashion store.
I kid you not, when I got to the entrance of the shop I said "Wow' out loud. The shop was bursting with appealing goods such as huge clocks. They seemed to specialise in large products. They had an enormous breadboard and candle suitable for Jack and the Beanstalk's giant! When I entered I was greeted with a broad country smile.
This is the kind of store that you are likely to find that 'thing' you have been searching for for years. I discovered a magnifying glass my dad has been looking for with a chequered or striped handle!
Chequered or striped?
A few of their unusual goods include: old fashioned hatboxes, a bar of herbal dog soap, Easter bunny gifts and lemon-grass clothes protectors. I also found some beautiful knitted dolls just like my old Aunty Shirley used to make for the church fete. You can't find them anywhere these days.
Gorgeous hand knitted children's toys
Don't be deceived by the front of the store. This store crams more in than Myer's bargain basement (well almost). When I asked the sales assistant how they choose their items as they extend well beyond the Linen and Larder title; she said the owner has an eye for quality and that there is a French influence. She has nailed the style I love.
The Yarra Store, Linen and Larder, stock giftware for every occasion and budget. It's open everyday from 10am-4pm. Add this to the list of best ever giftware stores and another good reason to visit Warrandyte.
Lots of ideas for gifts
Andů if that's not enough they are right next door to the Stonehouse Cafe which has a large veranda for outdoor dining in a peaceful bush setting. After some heavy duty shopping you can get some refreshments.
