Introduce a new generation of kids to the cult TV classic
The X Files Kim Smith Quirk Books
Kim Smith & Jason Rekulak. Quirk Books.

The X- Files: Earth Children Are Weird is a children's picture book adaption of the popular 1990's American TV show and cult classic The X Files. The X Files was a science fiction horror drama show about an FBI agent called Fox Mulder who operates a special unit within the Federal Bureau of Investigation called the X Files with his partner Dana Scully.

The X Files were set up to deal with unsolved or unusual cases given to the FBI to investigate that involved paranormal or unusual phenomena. Mulder created the X Files because he believed in aliens and ghosts and the existence of the paranormal and wanted to prove that they existed. Scully was assigned to him as his partner to de-bunk his work and to find a scientific explanation for the things that they investigated. The X Files aired from September 10 1993 to May 19 2002. It was rebooted in 2016 for a tenth season and an eleventh season aired in 2018. The franchise also had two feature films released in the cinema.

The X Files had a massive impact on television. It is regularly listed as one of the most influential and memorable television shows of the 1990s alongside other popular shows like Friends, The Simpsons, Seinfeld and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The X Files is now considered a science fiction cult classic and has been repeatedly hailed as one of the best television shows of all time. The show's catchphrase "The Truth is Out There" has become a very well-known pop culture reference.

As someone who grew up watching The X Files and crushing on Mulder, I was very excited to see that there was a picture book adaption of The X Files!

The X Files: Earth Children Are Weird is a Pop Classic book from Quirk Books. It was illustrated by Kim Smith and written by Jason Rekulak. The book is based on characters created by Chris Carter, who is the creator of The X Files.

In this book, the plot of The X Files is re-written to make Fox Mulder and Dana Scully childhood friends instead of the FBI agents we know and love from the show.

Kim Smith did a great job illustrating this book. Re-inventing Mulder and Scully as a pair of childhood friends was a fun idea. The kids looked great and made a great team and resembled their TV counterparts well. I loved Mulder's messy brown hair and the green alien face on the front of his shirt and Dana's logical and scientific nature. The kids demonstrated that with good teamwork and communication you can work together to achieve your goals.

The X Files: Earth Children Are Weird is a silly and sweet twist on The X Files. It is very child-friendly and a perfect book for fans of the original show who now have kids of their own and want to introduce their kids to the truth out there.
