Writers be aware, this is the place to drink in Chiang Mai
Beer Lao, Writer's Club, Chiang Mai
Beer Lao, Writer's Club, Chiang Mai

I have mentioned my taste for Dark Beer Lao before and it is my pleasure to announce that the aptly named Writer's Club also stocks this delightful tipple. (I'm not sponsored, I promise..)

The place is aptly named only in as much it attracts the odd aspiring writer, of whom there seem to be many in Chiang Mai. It seems like a relaxed spot for a drink and Bob the owner props up the bar and can regale you with stories if you are feeling bored.

I spotted a print of this picture of Aung San Suu Kyi on the wall and, although I hadn't seen the work before I recognised it as in the style of Shepard Fairey and true enough it turns out that his agent had paid a visit to the bar at one time and then donated the piece to hang on the wall.

I haven't eaten here so can't comment on the culinary quality but if you're a writer then you live on a liquid diet right?
