The World's Best Film - Film Review (Melbourne Documentary Film Festival)

What do you get if you take five years, three continents and thirteen life stories? Joshua Belinfante created The World's Best Film , that's what. This eighty nine minute documentary is on the program of the "video on demand" Melbourne Documentary Film Festival (June 30 - July 15).

Faced with a life threatening illness, Joshua questions his life choices and wonders about missed opportunities. In his quest to get the most out of his life, he heads overseas and along the way meets and documents the lives of some very interesting people.

This is a beautiful and captivating film and Joshua treats his subjects with the utmost respect. The viewer is taken with Joshua on a journey of self discovery and is given an insight to various cultures, whilst being introduced to a diverse cast of characters. We meet a kindly Thai taxi driver, a lovable London loo lady, the mysterious "man of the cloth", the world's best 'bummer' of cigarettes, as well as an amazing puppeteer, and a truly extraordinary Holocaust survivor. Although each life story is vastly different, Joshua Belinfante finds similarities with his own life and the fact that each person has managed to follow their passion to the best of their ability.

His hope is that the "people who watch this movie become inspired to go out and do whatever the little kid in them dreamed they should do. Or whatever the voice inside their head tells them they want to do but can't."

The gentle joyfulness of The World's Best Film leaves the watcher optimistic and possibly even encouraged to seek out their own best life by celebrating their talents.

The World's Best Film is screening as part of the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival Online . See here for more information.
