Red Gum chargrilled goodness
The Woodhouse is Bendigo's only dedicated steakhouse. They specialise in red gum chargrilling, premium beef, meats and wood fired pizzas. The award winning restaurant has a range of accolades including The Age Good Food Guide, Victorian Tourism Awards, Golden Plate Awards, and most recently they were named one of the top three steak restaurants in the entire country by the Savour Australia National Awards.

They have created their menu to showcase many of the local Central Victorian producers and farms. Even their beverages features a large portion of Bendigo offerings. The Woodhouse offers an amazing dining experience that will surely excite the senses.

As you walk into the beautiful, exposed brick restaurant you are greeted with the aromas wafting throughout the building. The Red Gum grill is in a prime position in the kitchen and provides a delicious smelling delight from the moment you enter the building.

We were instantly greeted by a professional and friendly staff member who showed us to our table. I have had the pleasure of dining here on multiple occasions but this was the first time that I've been seated in the al fresco area. It was wonderful and fresh to be seated outside but the weather was kept at bay by some well placed glass panels that allowed us to overlook the street.

As we walked past the roaring open fire place we glimpsed the other diners enjoying the evening. The atmosphere was perfect for the couple having a romantic dinner, a large group celebrating a birthday and two professionals having a meeting.

When we were seated we were promptly shown the wine list and offered water (tap or sparkling). The specials were then fluently recited by our friendly and attentive host. After looking over the menu thoroughly, I decided to go with an option from their famous red gum wood fired grill steak menu. I chose the Gippsland natural beef 250 gram Eye Fillet cooked to a medium rare level with a Pondalowie red wine jus.

My grilled steak was accompanied by delicious Dauphinoise potato and I chose a side of "Seared asparagus, Passing Clouds chardonnay emulsion, chervil, goats cheese, and black pepper".

We got a few sides for the table, each as delicious as the next. Our selection included "Richards Honey roasted carrots, Meredith goats curd, za'atar and pomegranate" and the "Battered onion rings covered in bush salt".

A night out at The Woodhouse wouldn't be complete without sampling their amazing dessert platter. The dessert tasting plate has bite sized options of all of the larger sized desserts. The delectable treats included "Baked ricotta cheesecake, Banana panna cotta, Instant sticky date sponge, Chocolate mousse and Lemon curd tart".

The Woodhouse is an amazing establishment and they give all of their guests a phenomenal dining experience. I can't recommend this establishment enough. For a special occasion, romantic dinner or a celebration consider going to The Woodhouse. You will be glad you did.
