Paleo options aplenty in South Melbourne cafe
Earlier in the week I enjoyed a quiet Wednesday lunch at The Wooden Elk in South Melbourne.
Always in search of a good brunch spot, I saw that a friend had dined at The Wooden Elk and posted a food photo on Facebook. It looked delicious and was enough to spark my interest.
I'd already checked out their Facebook page and had decided on the paleo burger with sweet potato fries even before I'd set foot in this trendy South Melbourne cafe.
Well the paleo burger was every bit as delicious as it looks in my photo below. Super tasty and guilt-free. The sweet potato fries are definitely worth a try, although the other option was cauliflower rice which sounded equally as appealing. Maybe next time.
There is definitely a clean eating theme with plenty of other paleo options, including paleo pancakes served with Canadian maple syrup, raspberry coconut ganache and fresh berries and a paleo nicoise salad.
The Wooden Elk has a relaxed, homely feel and the service was great with plenty of smiles and friendly banter.
Of course I finished with my usual freshly brewed chai latte which I had with the home-made almond milk. It was a little more watery than I'm used to, so I think I'll stick with soy milk in future.
I definitely enjoyed my lunch at The Wooden Elk and would see myself returning. I'd love to try the "Dirty Hippie" - a chai latte with a shot of espresso. Sounds good!
