A fabulous old character building and not what you might expect, as despite its name, "no, it's not an actual winery". Rather, it is a super popular restaurant, located at 285A Crown Street, Surry Hills.
Set slightly back from the road in a paved courtyard styled area, this building operates as a restaurant, however you can just settle in for drinks and snacks in the courtyard if you prefer. The Winery is framed with fairy lights at night and this adds to the ambience of the place.

We turned up on Wednesday night around 6pm (early we thought for Sydney), and they were packed. In fact, we were lucky to get a table as they just had a cancellation as we walked in. They had just introduced a new menu on this night and you have the option of choosing a main meal or smaller shared plates, which is always good as an alternative.
We shared a pasta dish, lamb meatballs, a salad and bread with olive paste and French goats cheese. It was delicious and I must say the pasta (fresh and home made) was one of the most creative and tasty combinations that I have ever tasted. (Ravioli, layered with zuchini salad and stuffed with roasted mushrooms.). View the menu here.

Check out whatelse happens at the Winery, including Girls Picnic days on Saturdays and Cheeseburger Sundays on the 'whats happening' page here.
Both the service and the food was superb. We were told by the hotel staff that this place 'rocks' late on Saturday night, however since I'm not a late night rocker, this was not something that I was going to turn up for.
