Kenneth Grahame's 'Wind in the Willows' has become a classic children's tale of summer adventure, featuring the unforgettable characters of Ratty, Mole, Mr. Toad and Badger. Now becoming something of a tradition the Australian Shakespeare Company returns once more to the Royal Botanic Gardens to present their own adaptation of the story. Featuring plenty of singing and dancing it's a great way to entertain the kids and make the most of Melbourne's balmy summer nights.
From the 29th December to the 30th January two shows will be held every Tuesday and Saturday . Starting at 11am and 6pm tickets can be purchased on-site at the box office near Gate F or through Ticketmaster- singles tickets are available for $25.
The Royal Botanic Gardens is easily reached by tram from Flinders Street Station (take any going down St. Kilda Road towards the Shrine of Remembrance), and for those driving parking is also available along Birdwood Avenue.
Bring along a well-stocked picnic basket and something comfortable to sit on as the show goes for about an hour and a half. It's also a good idea to take along sunscreen and some insect repellent to keep the insects at bay.The outdoor setting makes a great backdrop for this unique retelling of a classic story which will get kids and adults alike involved in the theatrics.
