Why not try the Tea of the Month - Turkish Apple
In our mothers' and grandmothers' time, the female friends and family met at each other's homes to knit, play cards or share a lively conversation over a cup of tea and scones. Times have not changed, although we ladies now like to meet at our favourite tea rooms or café. We still, as our ancestors did, dress nicely for the occasion and make a morning or afternoon tea a special gift we give ourselves.
Last Saturday morning a friend and I did exactly this when we indulged in a delicious homemade Devonshire tea at The Willows Tea Room and Café. The Willows is situated on Logan Road Mt Gravatt across the road from Photo Continental. Our Devonshire tea cost us $9.95 each and included light textured homemade scones and authentic homemade strawberry jam with whipped cream. Other cakes are on sale if scones are not to your liking and light lunches are also catered. All the food is made on the premises with gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian diets provided.
Homemade lightly textured Scones and authentic homemade Strawberry Jam...yum
The Willows premises is quite large inside compared to the quaint shop front. Owner Julie has been the proprietor for the last two years and is regularly booked for high teas, ladies' get-togethers and special parties. There is a large room at the back which is usually set aside for high teas, although these can also be served in the front part of the business.
Individual cosy tables are set up in the main dining area with a courtyard to the side. Green leafy fauna in a sunny and breezy courtyard is an excellent area for summer festivities. Groups from 2 to 20 can be catered at a time although bookings are essential for larger groups. Actually, it is a good idea to ring to book a table for 2 as well, if the amount of patronage on Saturday is anything to go by. There are gifts for sale and I have found through experience that you find the most interesting items in places you would never have envisaged.
If you have a copy of this year's Entertainment Book, The Willows Tea Rooms and Café is advertised on a coupon within. As The Willows say, "experience the elegance of having tea served to you in fine Royal Albert China". We will certainly be returning as our experience was enjoyable and the staff friendly.
My friend and I enjoyed a light lunch at Willows Tea Room in January. It was a warm day and we were glad to step into such a quaint old style tea room for refreshments. My own local tea room has been taken over unfortunately. The staff were friendly and Julie over came to see how we liked things at the end. I noticed a sign said readings on Wednesdays too.
