The Cultural Committee of the Greek Community of St George is organising a Film Presentation of The Will to Fly on Sunday the 3rd of March at New Farm Cinemas at 400 pm for 4.30 pm.

The star of the film and a 2018 participant of Australian Survivor Lydia Lassila will be present after the screening for an interesting and insightful Q and A with Peter Psaltis.

Lydia Lassila who is of mixed Cypriot (nee Ierodiaconou) and Italian parentage, was born and raised in Mel bourne. From a very young age, she was keen to be an Olympic Athlete. She did acrobatics for many years but after an accident, her ability to perform at the highest level in acrobatics was taken away from her. At the age of 16, she turned her attention to aerial skiing which is one of the toughest of competitions, with few women participants. After much training and hard work, she excelled winning Gold in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She has gone on to have two children, has created and continues with her business called BodyICE and carries on the competition stage, whether it be world championships or Australian Survivor.

She is the subject of this film which was made in 2016 by Katie Bender and Leo Baker. It has been hailed as a great documentary of a true Australian champion and it is well worth seeing, so bring along your teenagers, your young and aspiring friends and your grandparents to see a determined woman performing some pretty remarkable feats in the air.
