A Presidential election is pending in the USA. The country is at war with Brazil, why Brazil? Why not?
Red Phoenix and Holden Street Theatres is proudly presenting the Adelaide premiere of the hysterically funny play, The White House Murder Case by award-winning American playwright and novelist Jules Feiffer.
This rich, satirical comedy was written around 40 years ago but set 40 years in the future. So right about now. Back then it was fiction, but now, we're not so sure!
There's no better time to see this darkly satirical political thriller which originally premiered in 1970, at the height of the Vietnam conflict and prophetically warned of what later evolved into Watergate.
On the eve of the election, a nerve gas, which shouldn't have been deployed in the first place, is caught in the wind and kills 750 American soldiers. It's an honest mistake that could happen to anyone. But how can this be spun to the voting public, how can they explain the presence of the gas in the U.S. peace arsenal, especially when the current President's wife is a 'make love not war' protestor? And then as the soldiers are dying and the White House prevaricates and fumbles, a murder is committed.
Helmed by highly regarded director Eddy Knight, The White House Murder Case features a stellar cast of Adelaide actors including Wayne Anthoney, Robert Bell, Tony Busch, Josh Coldwell, Brant Eustice, Gary George, Matt Houston, Tim Williams and Anita Zamberlan Canala.
Feiffer's plays include Little Murders (1967), which was directed for the RSC by Christopher Morahan. Feiffer won an Obie award for both Little Murders and The White House Murder Case, and is the recipient of an Academy Award as well as the Pulitzer Prize. He has written more than 35 books, plays and screenplays.
