I am undertaking a double degree in Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of International Relations while living in Adelaide's Northern Suburbs. I have enjoyed writing and telling others of great things to do in this amazing city!
The Whispering Wall is located in Whispering Wall Park, Whispering Wall Road, Williamstown South Australia 5351. Just a 60 minute drive from Adelaide, this is the perfect place for a picnic.
It's a large park, with a large grass area, perfect for the kids to play on! Just keep an eye on the little ones by the water's edge.
There is nothing better than a family picnic and The Whispering Wall is the perfect place. Just pack a rug, a basket of sandwiches and treats (and bread for the ducks of course!), games and the kids into the car and head up to Williamstown.
Keep the kids amused on the way with a game of "I spy" and getting them to keep an eye out for any animals. You could also try getting them to think of games to play when they get there. When you arrive, stake out a good picnic spot, lay the rug out and set up the games. If the kids need it, there are toilet facilities within the park.
After settling down and enjoying your lunch, you can bribe the kids to finish theirs with the lure of feeding the ducks – because, let's be honest, who doesn't love that?
When the kids start to get restless it's time to talk them for a walk across the bridge, which is really the reservoir wall. Leave half of the kids at one end and walk the others back to the other end.
Watch their faces as they realise they can whisper to each other despite being a hundred meters away. The excitement and wonder will be amazing to behold.
The Whispering Wall works due to its curved shape, allowing the whispers to travel along it and be heard at the other end.
Explain the phenomena to your kids however you like, you could even tell them it is magic, because by the time they pile into the car at the end of the day, that's exactly how it will feel!
The park is free to enter and is open from 8am to 5pm seven days a week.
