The Wharf Revue has returned to Parramatta Riverside Theatre in September to give us their insightful spin on Australian and global politics in . For ninety minutes, the talented team of five sing and dance their way through the minefield of contemporary life and politics, leaving no cows sacred or stones unturned.



Drew Forsythe, Simon Burke, Lena Cruz, Helen Dallimore and Andrew Worboys bring a wide range of characters to life including Scott Morrison, Penny Wong, Pauline Hanson, Kim Jong-un, Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and Bob Hawke with a wig, clothing change or a funny accent. The satire is incisive and sharp and the dialogue and song lyrics are also full of unexpected gags and one-liners.



Music from the well-known musicals Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Evita, and Cabaret was parodied with skill and the use of audiovisuals and news footage enhanced the reality. People with a high and misguided sense of self-belief are running the democracies of the West to the amusement of the Putin & Ping Show and the "millennials" can't take their eyes off their devices long enough to care.


The revue visited issues relating to diversity, immigration, asylum seekers, Brexit, cultural misappropriation, political correctness and gender inequality in a light-hearted but hard-hitting way. The impersonations were brilliant and it was hard to select a favourite. Bob Hawke was seen propping up a bar in heaven courtesy of Drew Forsythe in a warm tribute and "please explain" Drew as Pauline Hanson in a homage? to Liza Minnelli.



Yet again The Wharf Revue has delivered an entertaining show that makes us wonder what we have done and where we are all going.
