Experience old world charm
South Australia's Riverland region has an abundance of attractions and places to visit. The drive from Adelaide is pleasant and only takes approximately 3 hours. The Truro Bakery at Truro is a great pit stop between Adelaide and the Riverland. We stopped at this very busy bakery for lunch and also picked up some delicious baked goods to take with us.
While in Renmark, some friendly locals told us one of the landmarks that we had to see was Frank Turton, the Chook Man's, houseboat "Thewillitsinkorwontit"- so we enjoyed dinner at the club by the river Murray and walked a few metres along the river to see the Chook Man's eclectic houseboat. Apparently everything on the boat has a memory for Frank Turton, otherwise known as the Chook Man.
The village has vintage machinery and cars on display, along with a replica school building, homes, bakery, bank, blacksmith, printer, motor garage, dentist, and village institute, all complete with exhibits and memorabilia.
