I am always looking out for new experiences, wherever I may find myself.
You get to complete this fun run dressed as Santa
With so many fun runs around, it takes something special to stand out, but the Variety Santa Fun Run does just that. On these runs, usually around 4 or 5 kilometres long, participants are all dressed in a five-piece Santa suit!

The fun runs will be taking place all around Australia on Sunday December 1, with the exception of Gerladton where it will be held a week later. All of the events raise money through registrations and participant fundraising for Variety the Children's Charity, an organisation dedicated to empowering the country's sick, disadvantaged and special needs children.

The harbour city's 5 kilometre fun run will start at Palm Grove in Darling Harbour at 8.30am and head through the city for a finish at the Sydney Opera House. Along the way you will find entertainment such as a Nova water zone, a winter wonderland, Christmas carolers, stilt walkers and bands, and if you hang around afterwards, you can be part of a big Santa Photo on the Opera House steps. Registration for the event is $40.00 for adults (13 years and above) and $25.00 for children (2-12 years old). If you enter a team of four or more you can get $5.00 off each entry price.

The fun run in Newcastle will kick off at 10.00am at Newcastle Yacht Club in Wickham. Participants have the choice of completing a 3 kilometre or 5 kilometre route to Newcastle Queens Wharf Brewery (the longer route heads out to Nobby's Beach first) where they can get a free sausage sandwich and soft drink courtesy of Queen's Wharf Brewery. Registration for this event costs $25.00 for adults and $15.00 or children, with families paying $50.00.

The 5 kilometre Canberra event commences at 9.00am at Reconciliation Place (below Old Parliament House), before making its way around the water's edge of Lake Burley Griffin and returning to Reconciliation Place, where there will be entertainment, fun activities and prizes to enjoy when you're finished. Adult registrations for this one costs $30.00, while children cost $15.00 and families cost $75. Enter a team of four or more for $5.00 off each entry price.

There are three different runs set to take place in Melbourne, with a 2 kilometre and 10 kilometre run being held in addition to the usual five kilometre event. The 2 kilometre event starts at 9.00am, while the other two both start at 10.00am, and all of then begin at Palms Lawn and head around Albert Park Lake, with festival entertainment to be enjoyed afterwards. Adult registration for this event costs $45.00 and children cost $15.00.

The route in Hobart is only 4 kilometres long and will begin and end at Cornelian Bay. You'll start your run at 8.45am and be able to enjoy a fun Santa Festival when you're done. At this event, adult registration costs $35.00, children cost $25.00 and family's $100.00.

Participants in Brisbane's Santa Fun Run will have to be up pretty early for their 7.00am start at Riverstage. They'll then run around the Brisbane River and return to where it all began. Adult entry in this event costs $40.00, while a child registration costs $25.00 and a family's costs $120.00. A $5.00 discount is available when you register four or more people at once.

A second Queensland event will take place in Bundaberg, but the town's residents will have to wait an extra week for their fun run, which is set to take place on Sunday September 8. Like in Brisbane, it will start early, at 7.00am, in Alexandra Park and will be 4 kilometres long. Adult registration here costs $25.00 while child registration costs $15.00 and a family entry costs $65.00 (the $5.00 discount for groups in four or more applies to this event too).

Darwin's Variety Santa Fun Run only goes for two kilometres and starts at 9.00am at the Darwin Waterfront precinct. Adult registration (for those 13 years and older) costs $30.00, child registration costs $10.00 and families cost $70.00.

The 4 kilometre Perth run will follow the waterfront of Marine Terrace in Fremantle after starting at The Esplanade at 8.30am and there will be festive entertainment to enjoy after the race. Adult registration over here costs $40.00, while children can participate for only $5.00.

The second West Australian event will be in Geraldton, where a 4 kilometre Variety Santa Fun Run will commence at 8.00am at the Geraldton Foreshore (located in front of Yacht Club). Santas will make their way along the coast before crossing the finish line to enjoy a festive family celebration. Adult entry costs $25.00 and there are two different prices for children, depending on their age; kids 5 to 12 years cost $5.00, while those 12 to 17 cost $10.00 (if your child is under 5 you don't need to pay anything).

Adelaide's Santa Fun Run will start on the Riverbank Lawns outside at the Adelaide Convention Centre at 9.30am and head around the Torrens River. Entertainment will be held on the Lawns from 8.15am. Adult registration costs $30.00, Concessions cost $20.00 and everyone 12 years and under can participate for free (but still get a Santa Hat for $5.00).

Head to the Variety Santa Fun Run website to find out what time you need to be at your event for registration, where you can pick up your Santa suits (often you can just get them on the day) and how you can sign up and start fundraising. It's worth doing all you can too; not only does you money go to a good cause, but in some cities, prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraisers, as well as in categories like 'first male to finish' and 'first female to finish'.
