The Upstairs Piano Bar at the Menzies Hotel, Wynyard

Published September 21st 2014
Have you ever felt like ending your working week with a great night out? Well, I've found the perfect place in the centre of the city! The great thing is, you can go alone or you can invite friends to join you, and it's just across from the bus station, near the train and there's taxis downstairs!

Located conveniently at Wynyard station you can start with "happy hour" on the ground floor of the hotel from 5:30pm to 7:00pm - they give you a bowl of mixed nuts which helps to drink more!

Now if you wish to carry on after, just go upstairs to the "Piano Bar" where the resident pianist, Kylie Stephens, is happy to oblige. She has a very large repertoire of songs from Bing Crosby, to pop to country and did a fab version of Mama Mia!

The decor is old-world with lots of comfortable seating, but the best place is round the grand piano which has been converted to accommodate a glass top! So we can rest our drinks and have a good old fashioned singalong! Snacks can also be purchased. It's also a great place to let your hair down and who knows, you might even make some new friends! So what are you waiting for? Join me!
