Now I've been to quite a few hotels and pubs around Adelaide, but I must admit that the Union Hotel is up there with the best. In fact, they describe themselves as a boutique bar and restaurant, and I have to agree.
Sure, they have your usual pub food, and the decor is nice, but it just feels like it sits in a class slightly above other hotels. The food is of high quality. The interior is nice and modern, yet still has an air of cosiness to it. They have a fireplace in the bar area which is perfect for the cold winter nights. I would be more than happy (and comfortable) conversing over a few beers with my mates next to that warmth.
Now as for the food, as much as I love pizza, and was tempted to sink my teeth into one, I decided on their chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy. It was crumbed not quite like others I've had before, making it hard to describe, but it was almost like a perfect mixture of crumb and batter. The mushroom gravy comes in a separate little jug, and thus the schnitzel remains crispy and tender.

My partner had the Bo Peep (lamb) burger, which was marginally dry to her palate, but was full of flavour nonetheless. Both meals would go well with an alcoholic beverage of your choice, be it a fine red shiraz, or a good South Australian Coopers Ale.
