Here is yet another example of the great free events that happen in Melbourne. Boris Portnoy, head chef at Auction Rooms, is about to give everyone the low-down on bread.
For Portnoy it is all about exploring the sensory experience of dough and of course he's a pro.
He has previously worked at Meadowood in California and even had his own operation Satellite Republic where he cooked Georgian and Chechen street food in a moped-strapped tandoor.
You can see a video of him making traditional bread here
He doesn't just make bland bread but stuffs it with Bulgarian feta and eggs. Or khachapuri, a feta-mozzarella cheese bread with dried herbs and chile sauce.
In these sessions you will learn about baking your own bread. Portnoy will give you all the information you need on clay and stone for baking and share the stories and folklore surrounding grains and traditional breads.
Participants will leave confident in the abilities to now make bread and with a starter kit, to create their own dough so they can start creating their own delicious home-made bread
