The Trocks

Home > Brisbane > Comedy | Theatre | Dancing
A night with The Trocks. Doesn't sound very appealing, does it? Perhaps conjuring up images of an evening on the toilet after eating a dodgy curry.

It is, however something much more appealing. The Trocks is short for Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, an all-male drag ballet group from New York.

Having started in Manhattan in 1974, The Trocks has gone on to become a phenomenon throughout the world.

This is their sixth visit to Australia but the show is an all-new programme. The troupe now also includes one Australian. Christopher Lam was born in Brisbane.

Whilst men play both the male and female roles, there is no real attempt to hide the masculinity of the dancers. Chest hair and stubble is clearly visible under those tutus and make-up. But that's all part of the fun, as is the obvious play on words of character names such as Ida Nevasayneva or Marina Plezegetovstage.

Whilst the show is all about fun and humour, there is no doubt to the talent of the performers. The dancers are faithful to the dance techniques and have a clear devotion to ballet. The fact heavily bodied men are performing them only adds to the impressiveness of mastering a balance on their toes.

These guys are very good ballet dancers AND very funny comedians.

Whether you're entertained by a pas de bourree or pies 'n' beer, you'll be sure to enjoy this.

The Trocks is on at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th November.

Tickets cost from $59 and are available at Qtix
