This December, Melbourne Shakespeare Company is proudly presenting a magical reimagining of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, filled with boundless energy, laughs and live music in the iconic St. Kilda Botanical Gardens.

This strictly limited season (six shows only) follows the sold-out success of A Midsummer Night's Dream in March 2016 and is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

The Melbourne Shakespeare Company was established in 2016 to commemorate the 400-year anniversary of Shakespeare's death. The company strive to create high energy, ensemble based productions which engage and excite audiences young and old.

The upcoming adaptation of The Tempest is set in Australia and sees the characters trying to head to Melbourne and Canberra.

On a distant island, a woman waits.

Robbed of her position, power and wealth, her enemies have left her in isolation, but Prospero is no ordinary woman, and this no ordinary island. When Prospero raises a storm to shipwreck the people who betrayed her on the island, her long contemplated revenge at last seems within reach...

This exciting production is directed and adapted by the acclaimed Jennifer Sarah Dean and features a largely female cast and crew, despite being regarded as one of Shakespeare's most male dominant plays. The production is suitable for all ages and is complemented by a live music score.

The cast is made up of local and international talent, including Madeleine Dunkley, Carly Ellis, Andrew Ilses, May Jasper, Khisraw Jones-Shukoor, Victoria Mantynen, Johnathan Peck, Hunter Perske, Emma Louise Pursey, Mitch Ralston, Charlie Sturgeon, Jessica Tanner, Lara Vocisano, John Reed and Paul Robertson.

The Tempest features musical direction by Ben Adams, production stage management by Gin Rosse, set design by Abbie-Lea Hough and costume design by Rhiannon Irving.

All proceeds from this production will go to local St Kilda organisations such as the Ardoch Youth Foundation, Gatehouse, Launch Housing, RhED and St. Kilda Mums.
