Late last year we went on an expedition to for a birthday. And what a delightful little spot this is.

It's almost impossible to take a bad photo at the Tea Parlour. With such feminine charm, this tiny tea parlour has got the decor down pat. Everything is mismatched - the glasses, cutlery, plates and furniture. But in a very endearing way.

Fluffy scones with cream and jam are brought out first. I'm tempted to eat more than one, but I know there are still plenty of other delectable dishes to come out, so I decide to save my stomach.

With a great shortcrust pastry and a refreshing lemon filling, this lemon tart is one of my favourites of the day. I scoff it down with increasing ardour. I love sour desserts, so I'm quite taken by this one.

Next up is the pecan pie which is deliciously nutty and despite its tiny portion is more than enough. Anything bigger and I think it would have been sickening (in a good way of course). I find it's a little bit too sweet for my liking, but I think the others aren't in agreement.

The babycakes are as aesthetically adorable as they are scrumptious. They make quite the impression when they arrive, perched atop a cupcake holder.

When the profiteroles arrive, I realise I've started to feel quite overwhelmed by all the sugar. But one of the girls tells me that the topping is actually lemon flavoured. So I have a tiny bite of it - the creamy lemon topping is delightful.

Finally the long-awaited cucumber sandwiches are brought out. I hungrily scoff two or three down because at this stage I'm pining for something savoury. With a lovely addition of dried herbs, the cucumber sandwich is just how it should be. Soft, white bread with fresh cucumber and a creamy cheese layer. I do wish that these had come out earlier, though, to break apart all the sugary cakes and tarts.

The menu is inserted in an old book, which I love. You'll get a whiff of that old-book smell as you make your tea selection (that sounds a little odd, but it was meant as a positive observation).

With teas from T2 , we can choose any of the pots of tea. The tea that stands out is the Apple Berry – as expected, it's sweet and fruity with an undertone of sourness. We also try the Monk Pear, an Earl Grey infusion with (you guessed it) pear flavours and jasmine blossoms.

There's also BYO champagne if you want to class it up a bit. For $20 a head, this high tea is arguably the most reasonably priced high tea in Sydney. And with the pretty decor and the amount of gorgeous dishes you get, this is an experience I highly recommend. I would suggest you make a booking though, as it's a tiny parlour that probably only seats around 20 people.
