If you're into timeless cinema gems then this series of events will be right up your alley. Classic Film Nights are run by The Sydney Mechanics School of Arts on a monthly basis, and they will launch the series with the screening of George Roy Hill's 1973 Academy Award winning film, The Sting, starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

The film nights will run every month, and are usually on a Thursday evening from 6pm. Each session is free and open to the public. The sessions are held at The Sydney Mechanics School of Arts' Mitchell Theatre on Level 1. No bookings required.

This month, for the screening of The Sting , the event will be held on Thursday, 9 February 2017, from 6:00pm to 8:15pm.

The film night will be hosted by Peter Rainey, a Sydney Mechanics School of Arts (SMSA) member and former Programme Director for a Queensland cinema group. As a professional film buff, Peter will give a brief introduction about the film, and conclude the evening with a Q&A session afterwards.

About The Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts:

The Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts organise free talks and events, which are open to both members and the general public. Topics include art, science, literature, history and current events. They also operate the longest-running lending library in Australia. Many of these events take place in the Tom Keneally Centre (for Australian literature and history) or in their many venue spaces, which are also available for hire.

About The Sting

Directed by George Roy Hill
Produced by Tony Bill, Julia Phillips and Michael Phillips
Starring Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Robert Shaw

Robert Redford and Paul Newman play conmen Johnny Hooker (Redford) and Henry Gondorff (Newman), who team up to pull an elaborate con on Chicago mobster Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw).

Redford and Newman previously starred together in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (which is where the Sundance Film Festival gets its name from), and The Sting will provide a twist that nobody in its day ever saw coming!
