Free entry, pet-friendly, fortnightly family Friday festival
Is there anything better than an annual grass-roots community festival that celebrates local character, businesses, food and produce? You bet there is! West End's The Sunset Social is a fortnightly community-based food and entertainment festival, so you can enjoy all the local flavour 26 times a year, instead of only once.
These fortnightly festivities are held in the leafy riverside Davies Park, West End, where you'll be able to enjoy all the food, fun and music in the shade of a spreading Moreton Bay fig. It's the perfect place to bring the family for a Friday night wind down with all members of the family catered for. All the action kicks off when the sun goes down.
For the adults there is live musical entertainment from local artists and a range of Brisbane's favourite food trucks and vendors will tempt you with their wares. You can also watch the sun setting in the west as you sip on cocktails, sangria or craft beer from the event's Long Bar. Settle down on a picnic rug under the twinkling lights while you watch the kids having a ball on not one, but two, jumping castles. Entertainment for the kids (and kids at heart) also includes giant games and ride on animals. You know you want to.
Vendors change but as an example, vendors confirmed for the next event, Friday 27 July will be offering some great winter warming dishes and comfort food. They include Greek Cuisine, Sausage Shak, Food Mood Truck, Briz Woodfired Pizza, Mini Melts - Gluten Free Ice-Cream, MY CAKE PLACE and Route66 RoadTrip. This event will also feature classic cars.
Davies Park is a six-hectare local green space valued by the community. It provides a host of sport and recreational activities and is also home to the enduringly popular Davies Park Markets every Saturday from 6am to 2pm. The park has recently been identified in the Local Government Infrastructure Plan as a place for renewal, to increase its attraction and usability for the community. Extensive consultations have been conducted with the local community to develop the Davies Park Improvement Project.
