The Story Tree café in Boonah is a hidden gem. From the outside it looks like a tiny little place but like the TARDIS it is bigger on the inside. Head past the counter, with its display of mouth watering cakes and macarons and you will find a much larger space with tables, comfy armchairs and couches and lots and lots of books.

The Story Tree sells new books up the front as well as handcrafted odds and ends. Up the back of the store are shelves full of preloved books available for $10 or exchange.

There's also a great enclosed play area for children, complete with crayons, drawing paper, a huge chalkboard, and of course more books.

The food was terrific. I especially enjoyed the vegan mushroom and lentil pie, with homemade chutney and quinoa salad. The pie was very "meaty" and satisfying.

Dessert also did not disappoint. The chocolate brownie was delicious and moist.

I really meant to get a photo of this macaron before starting to eat it but, well, I'm only human. It was cherry ripe flavoured, and tasted amazing. I have it on good authority that the caramel ones are also great.

The Story Tree is a wonderful place to spend a rainy afternoon or for a quick coffee and cake. The staff are friendly and helpful, the coffee is fair trade, the atmosphere is lovely and they welcome children. We will definitely stop in next time we are in town.
