Do you ever have those moments where you wonder why exactly you agreed to do something? It seemed like a fabulous idea at the time. However, as the reality of the situation begins to dawn on you, you can't help but question your better judgement. My latest venture into the unknown has got me feeling both excited and terrified. Despite this, I remain resolute in my decision. After all, life would be boring if we didn't challenge ourselves now and then wouldn't it?

The Stampede 2013 is set to be an epic obstacle course event guaranteed to push you to your physical and mental limits while having loads of fun. If you're looking for an adventure then make sure you sign up for this two day event at Woodford. Thousands of other people just like you will be there to celebrate the pure joy of crawling through mud, leaping over fire, frolicking through ice baths and running through live wires.

As you brave the elements with friends and ultimately conquer your fears you can expect to come out the other end feeling like a million dollars. If you survive that is. I'm only joking of course. Nevertheless, this challenging course is designed to test you in ways that you wouldn't normally experience. Therefore, make sure you go with an open mind and an adventurous spirit.

Fortunately – or unfortunately – you have until the 14th and 15th of September to ponder your decision and prepare yourself physically and mentally for this gruelling course. However, don't worry about it too much. These obstacles are meant for anyone and everyone to go along, have a go and above all have a laugh with friends, colleagues and fellow participants. The focus is on fun and adventure while developing teamwork and camaraderie.

The 5km and 10km courses allow you to choose the challenge appropriate for your fitness level and physical abilities. The point is to run through the maze of different obstacles until you reach the finish line. Regardless of how long it takes. There are no limits to how far this event will take you. Test yourself with the Rope Tango obstacle by army crawling through 30 metres of mud under sticky netting. Intrigued? There are lots more activities to look forward to.

For example, gauge your flexibility at the Human Window by attempting to fit through a hole in the wall. You'll also have the chance to manoeuvre your way around logs, a bus and a scrap heap. What I can't wait to try is the supersized slip and slide. This really is a larger than life playground for adults. However, kids can also join in the fun on their own specially designed course. So why not bring the whole family along for a weekend they will never, ever forget?

The fun doesn't end at the finish line. You can camp overnight and turn this adventure into a multi-day affair. With an after party unlike any other you can celebrate your achievements with a refreshingly cold drink or a couple of well-earned beers at the on-site Mud Bar, while listening to live music and enjoying the all-day entertainment. The atmosphere is certain to be upbeat. And if you have any energy left on the Sunday you can always try the course again.

Tickets for this event are selling out fast. General release tickets are currently available until Monday the 20th of May, or until sold out. They increase incrementally from there. Tickets for the 5km course are $70 plus fees on Saturday the 14th of September and $60 plus fees on Sunday the 15th of September. Alternatively, you can try your hand at the 10km course for $90 plus fees on the Saturday and $80 plus fees on the Sunday.

The longer you leave it the more expensive it becomes, so do try and sign up soon if you think you are up for the challenge. If you miss out on the general release tickets, you will have the option of purchasing the late and final release tickets. Additionally, the Junior Stampede for 7 to 14 year olds costs $25 plus fees. An adult may accompany them free of charge. All tickets include entry, a t-shirt and a free water or beer for the over 18's.

Why not make this year one to remember? Grab a friend, family members or a team of mates or colleagues and sign up for what it likely to be one of the biggest events this year. It's a great way to get fit and healthy, have fun and build character. Find out what you are capable of and increase your confidence by giving it everything you've got. Win, lose or draw you'll have some amazing memories to last a lifetime… or at least until The Stampede 2014.
