Australia Premiere at Flight Path Theatre

Flight Path Theatre is proudly presenting the Australian debut of The Spoils, the third play by Academy Award-nominated actor and emerging playwright Jesse Eisenberg.

After critically acclaimed off-Broadway and West End seasons, director Ian Warwick and producer Michael Becker are bringing this hilarious and thought-provoking play to Sydney audiences. The strictly limited season will run from 29 January to 8 February 2020. Tickets are now on sale.

The Spoils is an acerbic comedy about millennial privilege and neuroses. It revolves around Ben, a wannabe film director living off his parents in a New York apartment he shares with Nepalese business student, Kalyan. When Ben learns that his former school crush is engaged to marry a straight-laced banker, he sets out to sabotage their relationship and win her back.

Director Ian Warwick notes that the main character of Ben remains enthralling despite being self-absorbed and unsympathetic. "While the protagonist is overwhelmingly troublesome; narcissistic, abusive, self-sabotaging - Eisenberg has surrounded him with an array of diverse, emotionally intelligent acquaintances that are tasked with navigating him for various reasons. The play juxtaposes those that have nothing and aspire to everything and those that have everything and are grateful for none of it, while posing the questions - how do we deal with the difficult people in our lives and are the worst parts of ourselves redeemable?"

The Spoils features an excellent cast in Haydan Hawkins (Priscilla: Queen of the Desert), Isabel Dickson (Macbeth), Michael Becker (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), Kabir Singh (Waiting for Lefty), & Rebecca Abdel-Messih (Coram Boy). Set & costume design is by Irma Gustaityte-Calabrese (Next Fall, Seymour Centre) & lighting by theatre luminary Roderick van Gelder (Minky Opens a Gallery, Chippen St. Theatre).

"This work of utter genius from ... Jesse Eisenberg is a rare treat... There's a whole new level of intelligence in the writing; the humour is brilliant." - The Upcoming

"Eisenberg proves himself an astute chronicler of millennial misery, satisfying a dramatic craving we didn't realise we were having until the lights went down..."-
