We're sitting in a fragrant, light-filled space, spooning jam and cream onto fresh scones and sipping on a blend of loose leaf tea made up of sencha green tea, marigold and passionfruit flowers and rose petals. I feel completely and utterly at peace. And I'm thinking: Sunday mornings just don't get any better than this.

Our destination is The Spiritual Realm at Wellington Point. Though it's only been open ten weeks at the time of our visit, there is already a sense of ease and timelessness about the place. We're enjoying a Devonshire tea and tea leaf reading and, as we sip our way to the bottom of our teacups, owner Kate Denning instructs us on how to manipulate them on the saucer to incorporate our past, present and future into her subsequent readings.

Kate then begins to read the messages contained within the configuration of tea leaves that remain. 'So who's the gardener in the family?' Kate says as she traces the path of the tea leaves with one manicured nail, outlining the gardener's boots and the laden wheelbarrow. 'That would be my Mum,' says my fourteen-year-old who has watched me plant seeds and coax sprouts from the soil on more weekends than he can count.

The discussion soon turns to metaphorical seeds planted many years ago, the rubbish that must be cleared, the harvest that lies ahead. On more than one occasion, I feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise up, the same way they do when I experience deja vu or find myself running into the same person I was just thinking about. With her calm presence and soothing voice, Kate creates a very safe space for disclosure - to the point she now knows more about me than some of my friends. 'You're one for keeping secrets, whether you're aware you do it or not,' she says.

Kate first started 'seeing spirit' when she was 14. However, derided by her family as 'spooky' and sucked into the vortex of everyday life, she let her gift languish. It wasn't until a near death experience several years ago that she fully reconnected with this part of herself. Kate now conducts psychic readings through a range of mediums, including tarot, palmistry and tea leaf readings, both at The Spiritual Realm and a select number of markets.

Even if psychic readings are not your thing, The Spiritual Realm is a lovely place to browse, selling everything from crystals, candles and charms through to mandalas, wraps and magic wands and beads, books and bracelets. Kate is particularly keen to provide a platform for local artists (such as mandala artist Kerry Kirwan) or those whose story moves her (such as the creator of Maia's Angels who started her business to raise money for families touched by brain cancer after her father was diagnosed with the disease).

I had a reading with this lady Kate Denning and must I was quite disappointed. Readings should leave you feeling uplifted and inspired and she shattered me not delivering any good news at all. I didn’t feel she was grounded or focused at all as she kept asking lots of questions sorry I do not recommend this reader
