FREE return performance from the 2018 Bleach Festival
If you missed the Gold Coast's biggest arts and cultural festival which was held alongside the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, you can have another chance to share the experience this Saturday night, 26 May. HOTA, Home of the Arts, and Bleached Arts are presenting a free performance of The Spirit of Churaki and The Break after this show wowed audience at the Bleach Festival. You can finish off a day at the beach with this show being held at HOTA's home at Surfers Paradise.
You can expect surfing songs, laid back ocean rhythms, sweet ballads and Aboriginal language with spectacular visual performances. World class musicians, including an Australian super-band of legends from bands such as Midnight Oil, Hunters & Collectors and Violent Femmes, will rock the stage.
The performance is inspired by the story of Churaki, a Goodjingburra man known for his heroic surf lifesaving in the early 1900s, as surf bathing became popular on the southern beaches of the Gold Coast. The show pays tribute to saltwater people with their spirit of generosity and to their deep connection to country and cultural obligations. This is a fitting show to be performed on Sorry Day, showcasing another of Australia's great Aboriginal heroes.
