There is a new exhibit at Gallery 1 of the Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre . The exhibit, dubbed as SPIDERS, features the 8-legged arachnid which is, well, you must have guessed it right, spiders. The exhibit opened 24 Nov 2015 and will run until 9 October 2016.

The exhibit lets kids and the kids in you explore the world of spiders. It guides one to the many facets of spider ecology, from reproduction to their specialised jaws and silk. In fact, I have learned some interesting facts about spiders which I have not known before.

Interesting Facts About Spiders

  • All arachnids have 8 legs, but not all arachnids are spiders. The exhibit shows you what sets spiders apart.

  • Spiders can be found on every continent in the world except Antarctica.

  • There are more spiders that you would expect. The exhibit lets you explore spider diversity and distribution.

  • Female spiders eat their mates. In the exhibit, you'd learn that some of the male species are able to avoid getting devoured, while others happily face their fate.

  • Learn these and more at the Spiders Gallery. Learn about the wide array of types and effect of spider venom, which spiders inject using their fangs to incapacitate and digest their prey. Find out how spiders use their amazing senses to seek their prey and mates. Live specimens of some of Australia's famous spiders are also on display.

This is the official video introduction for the new Spiders exhibit, from the Questacon website.

Gallery 1 is just the first of the 8 galleries in Questacon. Gallery 2 (Wonderworks) features the science of art and the art of science. Gallery 3 (Awesome Earth) lets you experience the power and beauty of the Earth. There is an earthquake simulator and a caged lightning. Gallery 4 (Q Lab) allows for a more hands-on science, where you can either watch live demos or join in hands-on activities. Gallery 5 (Gallery of Australian Inventiveness) features the best of Australian innovation and invention. Gallery 6 (Mini Q) lets little children explore the fun way. There could be a queue in busy periods, so the gallery could be ticketed, and children can stay only in set time. During other times, a whole day in Mini Q would not be enough for the kids. Gallery 7 (Excite Q) features a 6-metre free fall or an air hockey match with a robot. Finally, Gallery 8 features water, its properties, its many uses, and its importance in our lives.
