The South Westerlies is a gentle light-hearted family drama set in the fictional town of Carigeen in south west Cork. Season one, comprising of six, hour episodes is available by subscribing to Acorn TV which specialises in British television and premiered on November 9 2020. The story centres around environmental consultant Kate Ryan (played by Orla Brady ) "holidaying" in Carigeen at the request of her Norwegian employers in order to sway the townsfolk towards a planned wind farm.



Against her better judgement, ambitious Kate goes undercover with her son to secure a promotion to Oslo. She has a history in Carigeen and the careful web of lies she has spun begins to unravel when she encounters ex-boyfriend surfer Baz ( Steve Wall ). The plot is quite predictable but I found it easy to watch with a great ensemble cast and beautiful scenery. The town is divided and Kate is not the only one with secrets, the battle against the evil Norwegians tests relationships and opens old wounds.

A second series seems in the cards as the last episode definitely leaves many questions unanswered.
