Regardless of whether you identify as a 'young hipster mum with bub-in-arms' or 'classic Aussie VB and hot chips man', you'll probably feel right at home at The Social Market. The low-key food and clothing night markets are set to continue into 2017 at the Mermaid Beach Bowls Club. Gathering momentum since its opening in October, it's pencilled in to pop up fortnightly from Saturday, January 7th.
The Social Market (Mermaid Beach edition) is a new offering from the organisers behind the successful Isle of Capri markets. Located just off the Gold Coast Highway, the venue is a more accessible alternative for the ever-increasing numbers of southern Coasties. Entry is free, and all ages are welcome at the kid-friendly venue.
Between 4:00 and 9:00 PM, visitors can wander through the stalls to trawl for inventive fashion, lifestyle and foodie wares. The markets are focused on providing a platform for talented locals, so most of what you'll find is Gold Coast born and bred.

If you're not keen on shopping, $5 will have you playing unlimited games of barefoot bowls for the evening – a great alternative for reluctant hubbies or energetic young ones. There's also an outdoor bar setup offering cheap cocktails and craft beers, as well as live tunes alternating between DJ sets and acoustic music.
As with all good markets, the food must not be forgotten. While you can purchase produce from the stalls, there's also a stack of eat-now options from the creative mix of food trucks on site. A decent range of local and international foods are available, with both sweet and savoury tastes catered for, as well as and vego- and vegan-friendly options.

The chilled Social Market is a pleasant change from the overly-populated Miami Marketta or Eat Street Markets, and you're pretty likely to find both parking space and sitting room in next to no time. The market caters to all and would be equally suited to a family-friendly night out, or as a pre-drinking venue for those keen to turn it up a notch afterwards (- the Nobby Beach drinking holes are only a short Uber ride away). So whatever your vibe, this one's worth a look.
