Thai food is probably my favorite. It's not only the perfect combination of spices, vegetables and coconut milk. Tasting Thai food will always fly me back to Thailand's beautiful beaches, awesome massages and great markets. Or if you want me to conclude it into one word - Thai food tastes like freedom.
Longing to have this Thailand feeling once again but with no extra money to buy a flight ticket there, I was wandering around Brisbane city, tasting Thai food here and there. Today I found it. Not a fancy place - so I found it perfect for cheap lunch.
It starts with a warm and happy welcoming from the cafe staff (just like in Thailand, in the less touristy areas). It continues with no more than 15 minutes of waiting after ordering in rush hour (needless to say that the food is not prepared in advanced in big pots). And it's ends with delicious green curry with chicken and rice, and an amazing thai soup ($11 each).
The two plates were big, and two hungry adults were easily satisfied.
One thing you need to be aware of is the spice-green or red chilly- put into your dish. I consider myself as someone with good tolerance to spicyness- but the medium spicy was too spicy for me. In the words of the nice lady serving us the food- it can vary any day- and that's exactly what I like in Thailand.
So if you miss Thailand like me, or never been there but want to have a small and cheap jump there, go to Thai Natong.
