Celebrate Theatre at Home, a fantastic initiative by the Lloyd Webber Theatres in London, screened its inaugural musical on the digital stage last Friday 3rd April at 7pm BST. The opening night was indeed a sight to behold as
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat took to the stage and bedazzled us. The musical of ever exuberant Joseph and his multicoloured coat was, to my family, and I am sure, to many others around the world also, a massive hit.
From the comforts of our couch, in the very cosy atmosphere of our living room, we were entertained by the likes of Donny Osmond (Joseph, the main lead), Richard Attenborough (Jacob, Joseph's father) and the ever talented cast of the West End. True enough, entertainment pre Covid-19 included a night out at the movies, enjoying melodious tunes at a concert or watching a play or musical at the theatres. However, amidst all the closures and staying home being the new norm, the show must go on. That is why, I am ever so grateful to Andrew Lloyd Webber and his team, for letting us into their world via the online shows. Now, all that people from around the world need to do to get their musical fix, is an Internet connection and a mobile device, computer or Smart TV.
The curtains may be down for
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, but in the spotlight in less than 24 hours, on Good Friday, 10th April, is yet another legendary rock production,
Jesus Christ Superstar (2012), starring Tim Minchin, Melanie C and Chris Moyles.
Do take note though that the selected musical is only available for 48 hours. So, what are you waiting for? Set a reminder or your alarm for Friday 10th April 7pm BST, aka Saturday 11th April 2am AWST, 4am AEST for those of us in Aussie. I can't think of a better way of spending the long Easter break, can you?
