Sensational Buderim Sunset en route to The Shak
Rarely do my hubby and I get to share a date night out (usually we snuggle up at home with a bottle of wine and try to find something to watch on telly) so this was a real treat! We decided, based on numerous good critiques that I'd read, that The Shak Organic Cafe & Wine Bar in Burnett Street, Buderim, was THE place to try out.
It was a lovely romantic ambience, with candles burning and heaters giving the outside diners (our choice) a perfect setting; the only interruption, the passing traffic. Doesn't everybody stay at home on a cold evening in Buderim? Seriously, it's not that bad but my advice would be to ask for a table indoors when booking. Seeing as we had already received our orders (the service is very efficient and the staff super-friendly), the inside dining area was already quite full and I guess we'd already become accustomed to the passing 'trade'.
I ordered the "special" of the day, which was Crispy Skin Tasmanian Salmon, beautifully crisp and cooked to perfection, with steamed green beans and roast potatoes - this portion, unbeknown to me was actually part of a warm salad, and was lukewarm on arrival, but I, not being a food connoisseur, was a bit disappointed, as I was hoping for a 'hot' meal. Needless to say, it was absolutely delicious.
We had missed an entree, but then decided on the hot sticky date pudding with coconut ice-cream, which was pure delight. I would go back just for this. It was moist and every mouthful was a sensation in itself.
The Shak is fully licensed. It is the only organic cafe and wine bar in Buderim with a vision to support local farmers and it is operated by a team of healthy, vibrant young people who share a passion for creating the finest quality dishes. The Shak offers a very extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu with gluten free, vegan and paleo options.
Opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday and bookings are an absolute necessity for Friday and Saturday nights. There is plenty of street parking plus a parking lot are available.
Be prepared to be amazed, book yourself a table at The Shak Organic Cafe & Wine Bar and let me know what you think.
