The Shack: Gourmet Burger Bar

It seems every new food and drink business opening up manages to find a new way to rip you off in Perth these days. Take for example the many 'niche' bars that sell "large" drinks for $10 - hiding the fact that large is actually a 400mL schooner rather than a 568mL pint. Never fear though, one place in Perth is here to please the masses!

The Shack on Murray Street is a small burger joint with a liquor license that is doing the complete opposite to the rest of the field - it's getting cheaper without sacrificing quality. The produce is the same great quality you'd expect from other burger joints such as Grill'd, FAB and Jus Burgers, only with a better range and better prices.
Every day from Monday to Thursday the Shack have the best special in Perth on select burgers. $5 between 2-6pm. Yes, you read that correctly, FIVE DOLLAR BURGERS! To put that in perspective the rubbish that fast food joints such as McDonalds throw at us cost around $4 - $8. And don't think they go skimpy on the ingredients either.
The $5 burgers have all the same ingredients and all the same love put into them when they're full price - around $14 on average (which is still pretty cheap!) Quality salads, thick patties, cheese, bacon and fantastic sauces and relishes go into their list of very interesting creations. They are well sized too, and you can get them with the best non-brewery chips I've ever tasted for a little extra. I'm yet to find a better deal in Perth.
The beer unfortunately is around the price we've come to expect in Perth. For between $6 to $8 you can choose a small selection of foreign owned bottled beers such as Corona, James Squire and Heineken. Like pretty much everywhere in the city there are no Australian beers available. There is a long list of highly regarded Cocktails for $15 as well as $8 shooters and a good list of wines available with or without food.
Enough of that though, back to the positives! The Shack itself is designed to be exactly what the name implies. It has a really old surfie beach shack style to it, with long wooden benches, surfboards, sand and various other ocean based ornaments strewn around the venue. It has a very relaxed feel about it too, no pretentious bouncers and a dress code suited to the theme - thongs acceptable.
They have a big screen to keep the patrons entertained, usually playing sports, music or movies depending on the time of day. If you are there on a weekend there's no need for the TV, it is just as fun watching the goings on of the drunken youth through the Shacks open front entrance. It really does get quite amusing watching their inebriated antics.
The first Tuesday of every month is Stand Up Comedy night. The Shack brings in up and coming and experienced comedians from around the world for a night of light-hearted fun. It is $25 for entry, but that price does include one of their delicious burgers for dinner. If you are not hungry it's $18 without a burger.
The Shack is open 11am to 10pm during the week, and into the early hours of the morning on weekends for the post clubbing feeding frenzy. For details on events as well as drinks and burger styles you can visit their Facebook or Website. Just remember, FIVE DOLLAR BURGERS in a non-pretentious atmosphere, you wouldn't be the first to think you've left Perth.
