Strolling along Newtown's busy King Street, near popular eateries and that wonderful Max Brenner chocolate bar, you'll find a little gem of a shop stocking items of popular television and movie culture that you won't want to bypass. Novelties for gifts or your own collections, The Sell Block features branded
Doctor Who,
Star Wars and
Games of Thrones products along with a whole lot more from present and days gone by.
A recent visit saw me checking out products from my favourite show,
Big Bang Theory, but it was the artwork on
Blackbook Ink's website featuring Sheldon from that same show that got my attention in the first place, otherwise I probably wouldn't have found this jewel in Sydney's inner west. The amazing mural on the wall at entry also includes some super heroes as well as
Star Wars' Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker.
The products are equally intriguing with both unique 'dust collectors' and useful items available. There are lots of figurines on shelves as well as soft toys, comic books, special edition games, T-shirts, beanies and caps, backpacks, cups and mugs, a couple of guitars and porcelain jars.
I love these lamps below, especially the comic shade. I'm wishing I had bought it now. Oh well, I'll just have to go back.
Harry Potter fans will love the Hogwarts school replica and the unique chess set is a master's showpiece. Nearby in another glassed case is another replica, that of the DeLorean time machine from
Back to the Future. It's huge and another piece of great craftsmanship.
Superheroes are plentiful here with the likes of Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Captain America, Deadpool and X-Men, all covered.
From decades past, there are
Ghostbusters glasses plus a slimmer statue and the Thunderbirds with a Meccano set and model rescue craft.
Children will love
The Lion King,
Minions and Muppet character, Oscar the Grouch merchandise, as well as
The Simpsons and
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but keep the easily scared away from the downstairs section which is all creepy thanks to items from
The Walking Dead,
Aliens and
Chucky taking up residence.
This is a great place for a gift with a difference or for that person that has everything. The only down side for me was that most of their
Big Bang Theory merchandise was sold out in the Christmas rush but they assure me they are stocking up again soon. So the only thing I ended up buying was a Facebook Addict money box where fines are imposed for posting pointless updates and ranting about things that shouldn't be shared. Well the tin should be full soon!
The Sell Block is open 7 days from 11am and has 2 locations, this one at Newtown and the original shop in Bowral. Prices are as you would expect for branded popular culture items, although there are some bargains to be had.
