I'm an aspiring writer living in Perth. I like to take the scenic route and take pleasure in the simple things in life, such as good food and good company.

I'll let you in on a secret
Perth has its very own Secret Cake Club. Yes, you read correctly. If you have a sweet tooth, love to bake, and would like to share this passion with like minded people, then the Secret Cake Club is just for you. Founded by Jacqui (Pantry in Suburbia) and Carolanne (Carolanne's Kitchen) in 2012, the club has garnered an impressive following over the two years since its conception, and for good reason.
The rules of the cake club are simple: every 4-6 weeks, a theme is set and the location is kept secret up until the last moment. The day of the event, club members come bearing baked goods and mingle with fellow bakers over the course of two hours, sampling what is on offer and sharing baking tips and recipes.

The recent event at X-Wray Fremantle on the 2nd of March was my Secret Cake Club debut, and first impressions lived up to expectations. The spread was a sight to behold, as tables were filled with sweet and savoury tarts, pies and galettes. There was a variety of traditional flavours, such as apple pie and key lime tarts, as well as some more intriguing creations, such as a Snickers pie and banana trifle tarts. Inspiration was in abundance, spirits were high and taste buds were introduced to a tantalizing experience.

The Secret Cake Club is such a great way to meet new people, foster friendships, improve your baking skills and discover cafes around Perth. There is also no denying that being 'in the know' and a part of this secret adds to the club's allure.
