A deadly funny portrait of a singular corner of our world

Riverside Theatres and Tasmania Performs proudly present a strictly limited season of the multi award-winning Tasmanian Aboriginal festival hit The Season this September. Tickets are now on sale (4 shows only).

Sharp as a tack and blunt as a brick, The Season is a charming and real portrait of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture. Written by celebrated playwright Nathan Maynard, The Season is directed by Isaac Drandic and features a stellar cast consisting of some of the nation's most distinguished Aboriginal actors, including Trevor Jamieson (The Secret River) and Tammy Anderson (I Don't Want to Play House).

Winner of three Green Room Awards and three Tasmanian Theatre Awards, the original critically-acclaimed production is a raucous and rowdy celebration of tradition and the bonds that unite us.

Families are like seasons: you don't get to pick them, and when they show up you best be ready.

Somewhere between mainland Australia and its southern-most mate Tassie, lies Dog Island. For six weeks every year that's where you'll find the Duncans, a mob as funny as they are unforgettable.

They come back to roost for mutton-bird season, and have done for as long as anyone can remember. Amid the threat of snakes and Pop's explosive temper, the family reunites with a country and culture still very much alive.

But their long memories and smart-arse streak mean it's not just the birds sticking their beaks where they're not welcome.

Old secrets are dug from their burrows and fledgling rivalries begin to take flight - it might all fall apart if it wasn't for the fierce love that holds this bunch together.

Regarded as a deadly funny portrait of a singular corner of our world, The Season joyously celebrates a thriving culture that continues to grow and strengthen despite several centuries of colonisation. Don't miss the Sydney shows at Riverside Theatres as part of its national tour.
