JR Ward is back at her best with The Savior, the next edition of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series she's most famous for.

Murhder is the only member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood to ever be expelled, but at the time Murdher left the brothers with little choice - his insanity and dereliction of duty were his downfall. Ever since he's been living in virtual solitude in an old estate mansion, which runs as a bed and breakfast for holidaying humans, but something has always haunted him.

Following a series of letters from an ageing female vampire he helped liberate from a human testing lab, and letters from Wrath concerning a legal matter, Murhder travels to Caldwell to seek the King's help to free the older females son from certain death in the hands of humans as his transition approaches.

Dr Sarah Watkins is a leading cancer researcher in a biomedical facility. She has been existing (not living) for some time since the unexpected death of her finance - who also worked in the same facility. After a suspicious visit from the FBI, she starts to question everything she thought she knew - mostly her fiance's death and what she thought the company she worked for actually does. Whilst investigating her own house, she stumbles on a thumb drive her fiance hid before his death. On it, she finds strange medical results - results that she can't explain - and couldn't be from a human, and knowing she's probably risking her life, sets off to do what she can to save a stranger she believes to be an innocent being exploited.

Murhder and Sarah's lives become forever entwined when they meet doing the same thing - rescuing what turns out to be a pre-trans male vampire from the facility she works in. The two cannot fight the strong sexual chemistry between them, but with Murhder's past only fully understood by Xhex - who's sworn to secrecy - and Sarah being a human who very quickly learns too much about the vampire world, can true love really conquer all?

JR Ward well and truly delivers again in the 17th book of the main Black Dagger Brotherhood series. While a couple of books (mostly off-shoot stories) haven't delivered as strongly, this one is back to her compelling best, ending with something that will make true fans of the series laugh and also be very very happy.
