The Sapphires is a heart-warming movie, mostly about family and beating the odds, with some good Aussie humour and some great Aussie acting.

Jessica Mauboy gets to show off her extraordinary singing talent while also proving she also can really act, while Deborah Mailman does not surprise as a delightful acting talent.

Chris O'Dowd brings buckets of Irish charm to the down-on-his-luck Irish talent-show host who reluctantly takes on the task of managing the girls all the way to Vietnam.

The story line seems a little disjointed at times but for the most part it's a lovely Aussie movie full of Aboriginal pride and some great music from the era.

A highlight is some terrific old photos and additional information about the real Sapphires at the end of the movie.

I met one of the new girlos who were in it on a bus in Sydney when she was off to NIDA. She was lovely, down to earth and just quite pleasant.
