One of Australia's most loved musical;
will be staged at Ballarat's Civic Hall on 7 October 2019.
Set in 1968 (a year after the referendum expanding the rights of Aborigines) and it tells the story of , a singing group of four Yorta Yorta women who are discovered by a talent scout and form a music group. They travel to Vietnam to sing for the troops during the war.
Written and directed by Tony Briggs. The story is inspired by the true story of Briggs's mother, Laurel Robinson and aunt, Lois Peeler, who toured Vietnam as singers.
Starring Jade Lomas-Ronan (Gail), Mindy Kwanten (Cynthia), Lorinda May Merrypor (Julie), Matilda Brown (Kay), Mike Smith (Dave), Lee Roy Tipiloura (Jimmy), Anthony Lim (Joe) and Wem Etuknwa (Robby). Featuring in the band are Mitchell Kwanten, Joel Macintyre and Jack Hickey.
A movie of the same name was released in 2012 starring Deborah Mailman, Miranda Tapsell, Jessica Mauboy and Shari Sebbens.
