The Royal Exchange Hotel or the RE as it's affectionately called by locals is one of Brisbane's most loved pubs. As their website will tell you it's been operating astoundingly since 1876. Located only a short walk away from Toowong train station, it hosts a range of activities from their famous beach and toga parties to weekly trivia.
Food is quite cheap with meal specials on most days or if you're just interested in a having a quiet cold one, you can pull up a seat on the balcony or relax in their massive beer garden. Tuesday night is trivia night starting every week at 8pm.
For you party animals, I recommend checking out the RE on a Wednesday. After the recent Brisbane floods, another iconic pub in the Regatta has closed most of their bars meaning the traditional Wednesdays at Regatta have shifted to the RE. It's wonderful if you're looking for $3 basics but by 8pm it can be hectic to move around. However if you're looking to mingle with the locals or find that special someone, all you have to do is look.
The RE attracts people of all ages, from people looking for after work drinks to students wanting to get away from exams. The dress code is very relaxed and the atmosphere is chilled. There are several TV screens to catch up on the footy or you can head upstairs and find a room with your own pool table. The RE is opened everyday from 10am with every night except Monday and Tuesday finishing at 2am.
With cheap meals and a relaxed atmosphere the RE is the perfect place to unwind after a long day and if you haven't seen the chaos that is Wednesday nights, I highly recommend it.
